“The first step on the road to success is building a network” – Sir Richard Branson
Today’s technological advances have made it easier than ever to engage with and do business with people from all over the world. There are people outside your immediate local area and network who need the solutions that you have to offer and are desperately searching for someone like you.
As you go about networking, aim to connect with people from outside your industry and local area. Don’t dismiss anybody. Connecting with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and expertize means you’ll have a wider pool of people to tap into.
Should we bother?
“People buy from people, so if you are limited in terms of who you can access, talk to and sell to, well, you probably won’t get very far” – Sir Richard Branson
Networking is not always about selling. It is about relationships. Having good relationships with a wide network makes you more valuable to your connections as well. You become a “Connector” – a person with a very special gift of bringing people together as described by Malcolm Gladwell in his book ‘The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Difference.’
Would you like to be seen as a Connector?
Would you like to develop relationships with some Connectors?
